Level 1: Bridging the Couple Chasm

Gottman Level 1 training is the first step for therapists wishing to learn the Gottman Method Couples Therapy. This Level 1 Training, Bridging the Couple Chasm, will give you new insights into treatment for couples who struggle, using proven assessment techniques and intervention strategies.

 Two Day Training (8:30 - 4:30; 2-3 March  2020) - 12 CE Hours

  • Skills to empower partners to dialogue about their worst gridlocked issues by uncovering their underlying dreams, history, and values
  • Methods to help couples process fights and heal their hurts
  • Techniques for partners to deepen their intimacy and minimize relapse
  • New assessments and effective interventions to help understand couples’ struggles

 Cancellation Policy: 

All registrations are final. If a Cancellation is made more than 14 days prior to the workshop date, your registration tuition will be converted to a one-time credit for the amount paid. Your credit, plus a 20% processing fee, is valid for a full year toward registration for a future Gottman  Professional Training listed  by Shelley Madden. Registrants may only cancel and re-register once. Registration credit is considered forfeited after the second cancellation. Registration tuition is considered forfeited for cancellations made within 14 days prior to the start of the workshop date.


Satisfactory Completion:  Participants must attend the entire seminar and complete an evaluation to receive a certificate. Failure to sign in or out will result in forfeiture of credit for the entire course. No exceptions will be made. Partial credit is not available.

Deepen your understanding of Gottman Method Couples Therapy and expand your strategies and interventions in your work with couples! Gottman Method Couples Therapy Training is for anyone in a helping profession or role who works with couples or adult partners in intimate relationships.


Three Day Training (8:30 - 5:00 13-15 April  2020) - 20 CE Hours

Level 1 Training is a prerequisite

What will you learn?

• Learn to internalize and integrate the powerful, research-based Gottman Method Assessment and Intervention techniques.      

• Gain insight as to when to use these methods and when couples therapy is contraindicated.    • Become skilled in using our Level II Clinical Manual including revised Gottman Core Assessments, Gottman Supplemental Assessments and more than 50 Gottman Interventions.    

• You will practice using Assessments and Interventions in group role-plays, view demonstration films, and participate in extensive discussions about the Gottman Method.    

• Receive supportive coaching from a Certified Gottman Therapist as you participate in experiential exercises.
